We have just added a new tour combining a hands-on soba making class wtih a walking tour of the Kappabashi Street's many kitchen supply stores. After a client, who went on this tour in July enjoyed it so much, we have decided to offer it as a regular tour.
You will start the day in the kitchen of a small soba restaurant with the owner/chef who will give you a two hour hands-on class on how to make soba noodles from scratch. And the fun part is, you will be doing everything. You will learn how to mix the flour into the right consistency, roll the dough into a long rectangle shape and hand cut it into noodles using a soba knife. After the class they will cook your freshly made soba noodles for you to enjoy. You will have an opportunity not just to taste how great handmade fresh soba is, but soba you have just made. Should you choose, the chef will package your remaining noodles for you to take.
Kappabashi Street is famous for its numerous specialty kitchen supply stores. This is where both professional chef's and home cooks come to stock their restaurants and kitchens. Browsing through some of the shops you will find great bargains and the chance to pick up some great souvenir gifts. Perhaps a soba knife for you now that you know how to make these delicious noodles.
