Tokyo’s Tsukiji Market is one the largest fish markets in the world and, quite possibly, the busiest. The market, which is comprised of approximately 1,700 stalls, opens at 5:00 a.m. with the world-famous tuna auction and is busy all morning as restaurateurs fill the tiny aisles in search of the freshest ingredients. It is common to see people lined up outside right at 5:00 for the chance to eat some of the freshest sushi it is possible to eat.

Tsukiji is made up of an inner and outer market. We will visit both markets but will spend most of our time in the larger inner market where most of the activity takes place. You will experience the fun and excitement as we navigate our way down the crowded, narrow aisles and explore Tsukiji’s highlights.
Be prepared to join in the fun as we visit many of the small specialty stalls selling an array of some of the freshest and most unusual fish you will ever see, some still in the water. With your guide interpreting, since little English is spoken, you will be able to visit with some of the merchants and learn about the various varieties of fish. This is an experience like no other and will be an outing you will talk about for years.

Note: While it is sometimes possible to visit the tuna auction or the auction area, it may be closed to the public.
